Solo In San FranciscoMy second solo vacation was a trip to San Francisco and Las Vegas. I arrived to San Francisco after a long 11 hour flight from London Heathrow and had a little trouble getting through US immigration as my first time in the country so they gave me a little bit of a hard time but eventually I was allowed in(relief). I found the Bart underground which was excellent easy to find from the airport and made my way to union square where I was staying which is right in the heart of the city and I would recommend if you go there to stay in that area.My hotel was a short walk from the underground station not more than 5 minutes. I checked into my hotel which was the Parc55 hotel which was very nice and modern I had a high floor room with a great view of the city.I choose this hotel for it's location and because it looked rather nice in the pictures with decent reviews on TripAdvisor(this is a absolute must whenever you go anywhere always look on here for reviews gives you plenty of information and avoids you ending up in some horrible hotel). http://www.parc55hotel.com/ While I was in San Francisco I enjoyed exploring the city climbing up and down the very steep hills and found the place very nice with plenty to see and do, in the pier 39 area you can go and see the sea lions which all congregate down there. I found lots of places to go shopping and never really got lost in the city quite easy to navigate. In the evenings I tended to go to a few bars for a few drinks of the alcoholic type and always managed to get talking to others at the bar and felt very safe walking around the city at night even though I never strayed too far from the main areas. While I was there I did hire a car and go exploring which was a challenge to say the least as the steering wheel is on the other side from what i'm used to and driving on the right side of the road took some getting used to but managed to survive somehow. I went to Santa Cruz for the afternoon one day and Half moon bay which I have to say the drive along the coast was absolutely stunning and was well worth it. The climate in California is crazy while driving about i found one minute it was 75 degrees and 10 miles further down the road it was like 60 never seen anything like it before. I went on the bay cruise one day which took us round San Fran bay and underneath the golden gate bridge which was very impressive but it was rather choppy that day and overcast but still managed to get sunburned as didn't think I would need the sunscreen(mistake). The absolute highlight of the trip to San Francisco was going to Alcatraz Island and going on the tour it was amazing think it was about 45 dollars but worth every penny, we got to see the cell block and the actual cells that Frank Morris and the Anglin brother’s escaped from back in 1962 and I had a headset on which had commentary going as you walked round explaining everything to you. I really enjoyed my day on the rock it was a memorable experience “especially when they put me in the hole and shut the door to give me the experience of being in there”, rather scary to be honest! I really enjoyed my few days in San Francisco and would highly recommend the city. (Would I say it’s a good place for a solo traveler, well there is so much to see and do there that you will definitely not get bored I can tell you that for sure and as long as your careful and stay in the main touristy areas the city seemed very safe to me!).
